Postdoc in bioinformatics and genome scale data integration
December 27, 2009 | In: Jobs in Denmark
At the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis at DTU Systems Biology a postdoc position is available within the field of data integration, with focus on data from genome-wide association studies and other molecular level data. The successful candidate will mainly be working on a project addressing how to best exploit genome scale molecular data to identify new disease genes and reveal general disease etiology.
Genome scale molecular analysis, such as microarray based gene expression profiling, mutational screening, mapping of epigenetic changes, and identification of interactions between gene products, offers a more complete view of the biochemical changes associated with disease. However, more data means more noise, more uncertainty and an explosion of the hypothesis space, why advanced data integration methods are essential to extract truly novel information from the data. A key aim is thus to identify genes which subsequently can be screened and validated in novel cohorts. The successful candidate will work at the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis in the group headed by Professor Søren Brunak (Integrative Systems Biology).
Qualifications
- The successful candidate should possess an advanced degree within bioinformatics or a closely related field
- The successful candidate should have a strong background in disease biology
- Good programming skills
- Good project management skills
- Fluent in English, spoken as well as written
Candidates should have a master’s degree in biology, medicine, engineering or a similar degree and academic qualifications equivalent to the PhD level.
